Product Description Prompt for E-commerce
Write product descriptions that convert — leads with the customer's problem, translates features into benefits, and closes with a clear reason to buy now.
What this prompt does
Most product descriptions are written from the seller's perspective: "This product features X, Y, and Z." The customer doesn't care about features — they care about what the product does for them. This prompt rewrites that dynamic, generating descriptions that lead with the customer's situation, translate features into outcomes, and give a clear reason to buy.
Works for physical products, digital downloads, services listed as products, software plans, and Etsy/Amazon/Shopify listings.

How to use it
- Name the customer's problem specifically — "people who want to relax" is every human. "People who work at a desk 8 hours and have neck tension" is who buys your ergonomic pillow.
- Translate features yourself before running the prompt — think: "so [feature], which means [benefit for the customer]." Feed the AI benefits, not spec-sheet features.
- Specify the platform — Amazon listings have different conventions than Shopify product pages. Amazon rewards keyword density; Shopify rewards brand voice.
- Check for hollow adjectives — the AI sometimes sneaks "premium" back in. Delete them; they add nothing.
Example output
Product: Adjustable standing desk
Customer: Remote workers who have back pain after sitting all day
Problem: Their back hurts by 3pm and they can't afford a fancy setup
Price: $299
Platform: Shopify
Short description:
If your back starts complaining by early afternoon, you're not the only one. This adjustable standing desk switches between sit and stand positions in about 5 seconds — no tools, no assembly drama — so you can shift before the ache sets in, not after it's already there.
Full description:
The 3pm slump hits different when it comes with back pain. You've tried better chairs, better posture, reminders to stand up — and you still end up hunched over, waiting for the day to end.
An adjustable standing desk changes the math. Switch between sitting and standing whenever you feel the tension building — the smooth pneumatic lift takes about 5 seconds and holds any height you set without drifting.
The 48-inch surface fits a dual monitor setup or a laptop with room for a notebook and a coffee. The cable management tray keeps the desk clear enough to actually use. Assembly takes about 20 minutes.
At $299, it's the entry point for a real standing desk — not a gimmick conversion kit, not a DIY stack of books. Just a clean desk that lets you work how your body actually needs to.
Variations
For Etsy (handmade/artisan items)
Add:
"This is for an Etsy listing. The customer values handmade quality and the story behind the product. Include one sentence about how it's made or who makes it. Avoid corporate tone."
For SaaS plan descriptions
"This is for a pricing page. Each 'product' is a subscription tier. Lead with who the plan is for, not the feature list. End with a one-sentence summary of what you get for the price."
For rental properties
"Write a property description. Lead with who this is perfect for (lifestyle, not demographics). Feature the top 2 selling points, not a room-by-room tour."
Common pitfalls
-
Don't: List features in the order they appear on the spec sheet. Order them by what matters most to the buyer, not what's easiest to write about.
-
Try instead: Ask the AI to "order the benefits from most to least important for [TARGET CUSTOMER]."
-
Don't: End with "Order today!" unless you have a real urgency reason (limited stock, sale ending). Fake urgency erodes trust.
