Podcast Show Notes Prompt
Write SEO-optimized podcast show notes from an episode transcript or bullet points — with a summary, timestamps, key takeaways, and links section.
What it does
Takes a transcript, rough notes, or bullet points from a podcast episode and produces complete show notes: episode summary, key takeaways, timestamps, guest bio (if applicable), and a links/resources section. The output is formatted for the description fields on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and the episode page on your website — with enough keyword density to help the episode rank in search.

How to use it
For an interview-format episode, the guest bio section matters for SEO — guests often search for their own name, and their audience does too. Include the guest's full name, current role, and company in your input.
The key takeaways are the section most likely to be shared on social. Make sure the output frames them as standalone insights, not summaries that require listening to the episode to understand.
Example output
Episode summary: "In this episode, [Host] sits down with [Guest], Head of Growth at [Company], to unpack why most B2B companies are treating their email list as a broadcast channel when it should be a conversation. They cover how [Guest] rebuilt [Company]'s email program from 12% to 38% open rates in 6 months, the segmentation logic that drove the change, and why the emails that perform worst are the ones that look most 'professional.'"
Key takeaways:
- Open rate isn't a vanity metric if you're segmenting on it — it tells you who's engaged enough to sell to
- The highest-performing emails in the test looked like they were written in 10 minutes

Variations
Solo episode (no guest): Remove the guest bio request and add "This is a solo episode. The host is [name]. No guest information."
Short-form show (under 20 min): Add "This is a short episode. Keep the summary under 100 words and limit takeaways to 3."
Video podcast: Add "Include a 'Watch on YouTube' CTA in the links section."
Newsletter / email version: Add "Also write a 100-word version of the show notes formatted for an email newsletter, with a direct link to the episode."
Common pitfalls
No keywords in the summary. Podcast discovery on Spotify and Apple still relies on keywords in episode titles and descriptions. Make sure the primary topic appears in the first two sentences.
Takeaways that require context. "The key to success is consistency" is not a takeaway from a specific episode — it's a generic observation. Good show-note takeaways are specific to what was said.
Forgetting the links. Show notes without links miss the main monetization opportunity. Affiliate links, guest sites, tools mentioned — all go in the resources section.
Who uses this prompt
Podcast hosts who produce show notes themselves and want to cut the time from 90 minutes to 15. Podcast managers and virtual assistants who work across multiple shows. Marketers repurposing podcast content into blog posts and newsletters.
